Letter from the Principal
Discipline and discipleship, are they the same thing?
The word discipline can conjure up many things. For some, the term may mean a sanction or penalty placed on someone that does the wrong thing. If you don’t follow the rules, you’ll be disciplined. For others, discipline may mean a routine or habit that is done under the guidance of an instructor. You might wake up early to go for a walk in the morning, you are disciplined in this practice to get fit and healthy. Both may seem different, yet they are not as they share the same root word, disciple. A disciple is a follower, learner and trainee of a goal, or instructor. In essence, both are seeking the same thing, in terms of a punishment, being disciplined, it is to ensure that you stay on track and do the right thing. In terms of developing habits and routines and being disciplined to do it, you are also trying to do the right thing. A disciple follows a path in life and aims to stick to it. It is a positive word, though at times, people don’t like to be disciplined.
At OCS, Christian Discipleship drives all our discipline and welfare policies. We want our students to do the right thing. We want students to follow Jesus and learn habits and routines that models Biblical foundations. We also guide and instruct our students when they are not doing the right thing, to learn and grow into mature and responsible young people. A disciple’s life is not an easy road especially for the Christian. We are constantly encouraged to “press on toward the goal” (Philippians 3:14) and not to become weary in “doing good” (Galatians 6:9). To live a life worthy of the Gospel, requires Christian discipleship and that is something we take seriously here at OCS. I look forward to partnering with you on your child’s journey in living a disciplined life.

Deputy’s Report
Morning Supervision Reminder
A friendly reminder that morning supervision at school begins at 8:30 am. To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, we kindly ask that children are not dropped off before this time, as staff supervision is not available.
The only exception to this is for students involved in approved extracurricular activities that require an earlier arrival. If your child is participating in one of these activities, their supervising teacher will be present to ensure their safety.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us create a safe and supportive environment for all students. If you have any questions or need assistance with drop-off arrangements, please contact the school office.
Thank you for your support!
From the Head of Primary
Our K-6 students have officially started their HOPE Groups for the year. They have already enjoyed a “get to know you” recess picnic and worked together for Clean Up Australia Day as a team.
HOPE stands for Honouring Our Peers with Empathy, and students meet once a fortnight in mixed-age groups, with Year 6 students leading each session. Kindergarten students are placed in the same HOPE group as their Year 6 buddy, fostering strong connections between our youngest and oldest primary students.
During HOPE Groups, students engage in activities and discussions that help them grow in their interactions with each other and deepen their understanding of the OCS School values. This program is a wonderful opportunity for students to develop leadership, empathy, and a sense of belonging within our school community.
From the Head of Secondary
Thank you for your understanding with the changes to the 6-Foot Track plan. While this is disappointing for many of the students, we hope you appreciate that your childs safety is our upmost concern. Please remember that Stage 4 will be in classes as normal on Wednesday to Friday this week. We will let you know once we have new dates for the camp confirmed.
This is the final chance for Year 10, 11, and 12 students to sign up for our 2025 Fiji Mission Trip to the remote village of Rakiraki in July. Stay tuned for more details on how you can support our team in the coming weeks.
Please pray for all the students completing NAPLAN tests over the next two weeks.

Know anyone in Year 6 thinking about OCS for Year 7?
Can you help us get the word out?
Message from the Chaplain
Discipleship at Orange Christian school is built on CHRIST—Compassion, Humility, Respect, Integrity, Strength and Truth.
All of our staff are Christians, and teachers integrate biblical principles into academics, and together encourage spiritual growth, and provide guidance in character development and servant leadership. The goal is not to force Christian belief but to allow students to explore faith in a supportive setting allowing Christian students to deepen their faith and non-Christian students to explore it openly.
OCS strives to equip young people with the knowledge, values, and purpose to impact their families, communities, and the world for Jesus.
Sport Spot
There’s been so much happening in sport this term!
Christian discipleship and participating in sports teams intertwine in several meaningful ways, as both involve commitment, perseverance, and representing something greater than oneself.
By combining discipleship with sports, students learn to live out their faith practically—on the field, in their schooling, and in life—while developing character traits that will serve them far beyond their athletic years.
Just as our students represent our school in sports, Christians are called to represent Christ in all areas of life (2 Corinthians 5:20). In these first 5 weeks I have witnessed and walked with pride at the way our students have conducted themselves on and off the field and in the pool—showing respect, integrity, and good sportsmanship— always being a witness to their faith.
Our Primary students who were off to CSSA State Swimming Championships on Thursday 6th March had a great day in the pool, and to their Secondary peers for their CSSA State Swimming Championships on March 25th we wish you all the best! Make sure you read the results in the next Newsletter.
The following achievements are a reminder of the way our children are using their gist to honour our Lord and Saviour.

CSSA and CIS State Team Tryouts
We have also had some outstanding young OCS athletes travelling to Sydney to trial for Christian School Sport Association (CSSA) and Combined Independent Schools (CIS) state teams this year.
Zachary Howarth in Year 11 was successful in achieving selection again in the U/18 Boys CIS Softball Team after being selected in 2024. Zac and his teammates will play at All Schools on March 11th. Zac brings to the team experience and skill that is sure to allow the team to be successful again in 2025 after winning All Schools in 2024.
Yr 7 Student Henry Kay successfully competed at the All School’s Triathlon on Wednesday 26th at the Sydney International Regatta Centre. Henry placed 13th in NSW CIS and 25th in All Schools events. He will be returning to the Regatta Centre for the CSSA state Triathlon on March 28th.
Our OCS ladies Isabelle Castvan (Yr 11), Emily Metcalfe (Yr 10), Zoe Jones and Ellie Kemp (Yr 9) were out there mixing it with the best in the U/19 Women’s Soccer CSSA State Trials on March 3rd. Each girl displayed excellent skills and sportsmanship as they participated in round robin games throughout the day. Although missing out on a spot, each of the girls made the school proud and are keen to return in 2026.
Molly Pyle in Yr 7 made her way to Sydney for the CSSA U/15 Hockey Trials on February 28th, despite an excellent performance on the day Molly just missed out on a place on the team, but her youth will see her return with determination in 2026.
Toby Jackson in Yr 11 had the honour of trailing for the U/19 CIS Cricket Team at Cricket Central in Sydney on March 5th. A hectic day full of skill testing and games Toby, although not claiming a coveted spot, came away growing as a player and a desire to develop his skills through the next year so he can return in 2026 to clinch a spot on the CIS team.
2024 CIS Sports Awards
Yr 6 student Dimity Buckerfield was recognised, along with her 2024 CIS Primary Girls Hockey teammates at the 2024 CIS Sports Awards evening on February 28th at CommBank Stadium, Parramatta. Dimity’s team were crowned the 2024 Primary CIS Sports Team of the Year. It was a very exciting evening for Dimity and her teammates who convinced the panel that their gold medal winning performance at the NSW PSSA Girls Hockey Championships, along with going through the tournament undefeated was worthy of this prestigious award.
Hockey Coaching for Stage 3!
The good times in Sport keep coming…. this term with the blessing of securing a Sporting Schools Grant for Term 1 our Stage 3 students have had the privilege of being coached in field hockey by Ex- Australian player Beth Shea and current Australian Masters player Darryn Marjoram and other local hockey legends. This program provides an opportunity for students to increase their physical activity and to participate in sport that they may not normally be involved in, along with growing the depth of young hockey stars at Orange Christian School.
TAP Program
has had an intense start to their 2025 campaign. Training at Orange Emu’s Sports grounds every Wednesday morning from 7.30am under the guidance of JLW Performance the students have already also undertaken fitness testing and listened to advice about goal setting, resilience and what their strength and weakness are as athletes. From this session student athletes are more focused towards improving their overall fitness and setting personal goals and ways they can actively achieve their goals and will re-evaluate this when they next undergo fitness testing.
